ACCURAL ACCOUNTING - An accounting methodology which takes account of accrued as well as actual expenses and revenue during the relevant accounting period. For example, if interest payments on a bond owned by an investor are building up but have not yet been paid, the amount notionally built up at the time of accounting is included in accruals, even though it has not actually been received. (See also Cash Accounting).
